Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
The body of a 65-year-old woman, Kolapati Pashi, was found outside the gate of Sankrail Rural Hospital on Wednesday morning, sparking allegations of medical negligence. She had been admitted to the hospital on Tuesday night with severe stomach pain. According to her family, she was restless and in pain when admitted, but they left later that night, assuming she was receiving treatment. By morning, a crowd had gathered near a shop outside the hospital, where her body was found.
Local police arrived at the scene after being informed and sent the body for a post-mortem examination. The circumstances of her death and how her body ended up outside the hospital remain unclear. Her family has accused the hospital of negligence, questioning whether she received proper medical care. Hospital authorities have not yet responded to the allegations. Meanwhile, the district health administration has taken note of the incident, with Chief Health Officer Kishloy Dutta assuring that a detailed probe will be conducted based on the complaint.
The state health department has sought an immediate report from the hospital regarding the incident. Authorities are expected to review security footage and hospital records to determine what happened between the time of admission and the discovery of the body. Further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
